Deck Department:
The function of the Deck Department is to maintain a state of operational and materiel readiness consistent with the ship's operational assignments. The Deck Department is responsible for: the external appearance of the ship, the ship's weapons, seamanship, and naval boarding. The Deck Department is normally managed by an officer in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant or Lieutenant(N).
Engineering Department:
The function of the Engineering Department is to provide the ship with mobility and physical services and to ensure watertight and structural integrity within the ship. The department is divided into three divisions: Propulsion, Electrical and Electronic. The KINGSTON class ships do not have an engineer officer embarked, the Engineering Department is normally managed by a senior Marine Engineering Systems Operator at the Petty Officer or Chief Petty Officer rank.
Logistics Department:
Unlike larger warships, the MCDV does not have a separate logistics department. Supply and finance are managed, in a limited capacity, by the Executive Officer, administration is coordinated by the Coxswain. There are normally three cooks embarked, and food services are managed by a senior cook, normally at the Petty Officer rank.
Operations Department:
The function of the Operations Department is to maintain a state of operational readiness and fighting efficiency which will enable the ship to successfully conduct any assigned mission. The Operations Department has two divisions: Naval Combat Information, and Naval Communication. The Operations Department is normally managed by an officer in the rank of Lieutenant(N).
Navigation:
A Martime Surface/Subsurface Officer will be the ship's Navigation Officer. The Navigation Officer is responsible to the Commanding Officer for navigating the ship in accordance with Naval and international practices, in particular preparing and carrying out navigation plans, and advising the Commanding Officer in navigation related matters. The Navigation Officer is normally a Sub-Lieutenant or Lieutenant(N).
