SLt Morris originally from the rural town of Athens Ontario, enjoyed his childhood and youth exploring the waters around the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. After attending High school in Athens he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Carleton University majoring in mathematics. Graduating from University in 1997, he then set off to explore other parts of the world by sailing as a Deckhand then being promoted to First Officer onboard the 46 meter privately owned luxury yacht ‘M/Y Sally Ann’. Remaining onboard the M/Y Sally Ann for five years they circumnavigated the globe crossing all three major Oceans, visited 25 countries, and accumulated 50,000 nautical miles at sea. SLt Morris then returned to Canada and commenced a four year work period with the Canadian Coast Guard sailing in the Central and Arctic Region onboard Major NavAid Tenders as well as Search and Rescue. During his time with the Coast Guard he obtained a Transport Canada Watchkeeping Mate certificate allowing him to perform the duties of a Third Officer onboard any Canadian flagged commercial vessel.
In 2006, SLt Morris began his Naval Career as a Maritime Surface and Sub Surface(MARS) Officer at HMCS CATARAQUI, the Naval Reserve Division in Kingston, Ontario. After completing his MARS training in 2008 he served full time in the Reserves by sailing as a Bridge Watchkeeper based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia onboard the Royal Canadian Navy’s Maritime Coastal Defense Vessels. SLt Morris was then shifted to Victoria British Columbia to fill the position of Deck Officer onboard HMCS EDMONTON from 2009-2010. After completing a tour as Deck Officer he stepped into the position of Navigating Officer onboard HMCS SASKATOON, a position which he has enjoyed since March 2010.
