How long have you been in the navy?

I have been in the Navy for two years now.

What is your role in the navy?

I am a Nav Comm. We’re responsible for communications from ship to ship or ship to shore.

What encouraged you to join?

I was looking for a job that would allow me to travel.

Do you have family members in the military or reserves? If yes, who?

My father is a Warrant Officer in the Army, serving with the 2 RCR.

Where else have you worked?

Before joining the Navy I worked in a print shop. I also worked for a publishing company as a graphic designer.

What has been the most valuable lesson learned in the navy?

The Navy has taught me to always meet your timings and to be prepared for anything.

What message do you have for people who may be interested in joining the navy?

Make sure you don’t get sea sick!

What ships have you sailed on?

HMCS Preserver is my first ship.

What is a typical day in your role of the navy like?

It’s pretty typical, usually: Work, eat, sleep and work out.

What is the typical reaction you get when you tell people you’re in the navy?

I find it’s a pretty normal reaction, the same as with any other job.
