HMCS OTTAWA
Ship Departments
Executive Department
The function of the Executive Department is to provide general administrative, medical and regulating services to the ship's company. The Department is headed by the Executive Officer, and is comprised of three divisions. They are listed below with their associated responsibilities:
- Regulating Division - headed by the Coxswain and is responsible for dress and deportment, morale, discipline and duty watches.
- Administrative Division - responsible for but not limited to leave, various career-related issues, postings, temporary duty, file management, handling correspondence and releases.
- Medical Division - responsible for medical treatment, hygiene and medical administration. We are responsible for the primary healthcare of all personnel on board the ship. We provide a wide range of services, everything from annual medical exams to advanced life support services! The medical staff consists of one senior and one junior medic. To assist us, several members of the crew are trained in advance first aid and act as casualty clearers in emergencies. It may not seem like much but you would be amazed at how many casualties this team can handle in a short time.
As you can see, the Executive Department, although the smallest of the ship's departments in terms of personnel, the team ensures that the "who, what, where, when and why" of the ship's day to day activities are organized.
