Full name: Her Majesty's Canadian Ship CHAMPLAIN
Motto: "Preparing to defend"
History:
In the mid-80s, a new phase of the revitalization of the Naval Reserve was set in motion, and four new French-speaking Divisions were born. HMCS CHAMPLAIN was formed in 1985, as naval operations in Chicoutimi were brought to an end. CHAMPLAIN took over again the naval participation within Chicoutimi with a first cohort of sailors graduating in 1986. At that time, the Division was located in a former shopping centre. The facilities that actually house the division were officially welcomed within the Canadian Maritime Forces in April 1993. As time goes on, HMCS CHAMPLAIN has been able, by its active participation in community life, to take on the challenge of maintaining with dignity the naval tradition in Chicoutimi and Saguenay.
