MARLANT - Maritime Forces Atlantic: Formation Environment

Commander's Safety and Environmental Policy Statement

In addition to the protection of human life, the Department recognizes the importance of accepting its legal and moral responsibility to protect the environment. In Maritime Forces Atlantic (MARLANT) these objectives will be achieved within the framework of a formal safety and environmental management system (SEMS) consistent with the principles of CSA Z1000-06 Occupational Health and Safety Management and ISO 14001.

The conduct of MARLANT’s operations has the potential to harm people and the environment.  In executing its mission, MARLANT will demonstrate leadership by using the SEMS to keep our people safe, minimize our impact on the environment and ensure the prevention of pollution from all operations.

The SEMS will assist us in meeting our responsibility to comply with all applicable safety and environmental legislation and standards.  It provides a framework for senior management to set and review objectives and targets and establish priorities for resources, thus, ensuring the continual improvement of our safety and environmental performance.

Implementing, maintaining and validating the SEMS requires all personnel to consider the consequences of their actions, to conduct their duties in a responsible manner, to show leadership when dealing with safety and environmental issues, and to adhere to the Department’s policies.

I am personally committed to ensuring a safe workplace and to sustaining our environment, and will make appropriate resources available to ensure that we are successful.
