News Release: HEALTH AGREEMENT SIGNED

HALIFAX, N.S. – The Minister of National Defence and the Atlantic Gateway, Peter Gordon Mackay, applauded the signing of a Surgical Provision of Service Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today in Halifax stating, “This partnership between medical service providers is just one example of the strong bond that exists between the military and civilian communities of the Atlantic Region.

Rear Admiral Paul Maddison, Commander Joint Task Force Atlantic, Brigadier-General Hilary Jaeger, Canadian Forces Surgeon General and Kathleen Graham, VP Clinical and Acute Care took part in the 1:00 pm ceremony at Canadian Forces Base Halifax.  This MOU will allow members of the general public currently awaiting day surgery for hernias to undergo their treatment in the military facility.

“The Canadian Forces has a mutually supportive relationship with the city of Halifax and the province of Nova Scotia,” added Admiral Maddison.  “This MOU signing today simply underscores the depth of that connection.”

This initiative will enhance the already valuable partnership the Canadian Forces enjoys with Capitol District Health Authority.  Providing access to r facility for some specific procedures is an excellent example of effective partnering, community support and professional cooperation.

“The CF Health Services’ infrastructure in Halifax provides a unique and fortunate situation that will assist our partners at Capital Health to better serve this community” noted General Jaeger.  The MOU reinforces our shared belief in exploring creative ways of offering the best possible care to Canadians.”
