CDR Christopher Peschke

Commander Chris Peschke was born in Montreal, QC 20 March 1963. He attended Dawson College in Montreal (Communications Arts and Photography) and in civilian life worked as a commercial photographer. He joined the Naval Reserve in Montreal, QC in 1980 and subsequent to an 8 year career as a Naval Reserve Officer, transferred to the regular Navy in 1988.  He served as a Bridge Watchkeeping Officer in HMCS NIPIGON and as Above Water Warfare Director in HMC Ships NIPIGON and VANCOUVER. He served as a Course Training Officer at VENTURE, the Naval Officer Training Centre, in Victoria for two years, subsequently completing the Operations Room Officer Course at the Canadian Forces Naval Operations School Halifax in 1996.  He was posted back to Victoria and served as an Operations Room Officer and Combat Officer in HMCS HURON.  While in HURON he participated in the capture of the drug smuggler Blue Dawn, and the an illegal migrant vessel arriving from China in 2002. Promoted to Lieutenant-Commander, he was posted to the Canadian Fleet Pacific Staff as Operations Officer and Anti-Air Warfare Control Officer from 2000-2003 which included a 7 month tour of duty in the Middle East onboard HMC Ships OTTAWA and ALGONQUIN as part of OPERATION APOLLO/OP ENDURING FREEDOM.  In 2003 he spent a year as the Combat Division Commander at Canadian Forces Fleet School Esquimalt.  He attended the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College in Toronto in 2004 and upon graduation, was appointed as Executive Officer of HMCS MONTREAL in Halifax.  Promoted to Commander in 2007, he was posted as Chief Staff Officer Operations on the Canadian Fleet Pacific Staff.  In 2009 he was posted to National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa as Project Director for the Canadian Surface Combatant Project.  Cdr Peschke assumed command of HMCS HALIFAX in June 2011. He is married to Vivienne (née Foster) of Birmingham, England.  His hobbies include cycling, reading history and exercising the privileges of his Commercial multi-engine pilot license.
