About the Ship

Description: Stylized representation of Queen's Square in Charlottetown with coronation crown in the center and four other squares surrounding.
Significance: When Captain Samuel Holland, RN, surveyed and laid out the city of Charlottetown, he designed one major central square (Queen's) surrounded by four minor squares. Within Queen's Square are located Province House, where the initial Confederation meetings were held, the Court House, and Confederation Center. The other four squares are open grassy areas one city block in size. At the heart of the ship's badge is a stylized representation of Queen's Square. The coronation crown of Queen Charlotte Sophia, wife of George III, is superimposed upon the central square. This charge both honors the city's namesake, and recognizes its importance as the provincial capital. It also underlines the status of the community as a "Royal City". Both the seat of government and the residence of the Queen's representative, the Lieutenant Governor.
