Naval Reserve (NAVRES) - December 17, 2009

On December 17, 2009 in the cold of winter in the minutes preceding the Crews’ Christmas Dinner, members of Naval Reserve Headquarters, Canadian Forces Fleet School (Québec) and Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Montcalm proudly raised their Commemorative Canadian Naval Centennial Flag. On behalf of each unit, the coxswain representing the Navy’s Past and Present and the most junior sailor (Future) raised their Unit’s Centennial commemorative flag. Capt(N) R.H. Jean, the Naval Reserve’s Deputy Commander was leading the ceremony on behalf of the twenty-four Naval Reserve Divisions spread all across Canada.

HMCS MALAHAT in Victoria, BC - January 01, 2010

Rear Admiral Tyrone Pile, Commander Maritime Forces Pacific is joined by the Commanding Officer of Victoria's Naval Reserve Division, HMCS Malahat, Cmdr. Steven Pokotylo to display the Canadian Naval Centennial Flag to New Year's guests at HMCS Malahat. In the promising shadow of a New Year's rainbow, Leading Seaman Ryan Flagg of Victoria's Naval Reserve Division HMCS Malahat breaks the Canadian Naval Centennial Flag New Year's morning to herald the Canadian Navy's Centennial year in the city where the Canadian Naval Reserve was born. In 1913, three years after the establishment of the Canadian Navy, a group of Victoria citizens paraded several evenings each week to become familiar with drill, seamanship, Admiralty law, arms drill and naval organization.
