The Naval Officers' Association of Canada is embarked upon a nation-wide essay contest that will invite high school students from coast to coast to compose a 1000-word essay, a narrative poem or an illustration on some aspect of the evolution of the Canadian Navy. A choice of themes will be presented for student consideration. The initiative, keyed to Canadian history, language and art will be coupled with an introduction of “An ABC of The Battle of the Atlantic”. Students will participate in an active and innovative exercise designed to increase and improve their knowledge and appreciation of the role that the Canadian Navy has played in Canada’s evolution to nationhood and international standing.
The essay contest will stimulate students to gain a greater appreciation for the navy and its contributions to Canada during a century of service, with a focus on the past and present achievements, developing an appreciation of the role the navy plays in a maritime nation like Canada.
Essay Contest activities are scheduled for 2009-2010.
